NDN Opera uplifts and inspires Native youth and communities by bringing touring operatic performances and meaningful conversations to audiences while celebrating Native artists and cultures from across the country.

Bo Shimmin
From the Pueblo of Acoma to international stages
Lauded for his expressivity and wide use of vocal colors, Native (Pueblo of Acoma) tenor Bo Shimmin, resides in Tucson, Arizona and is known for his interpretation of new music and art song repertoires. In November of 2022, he made his Italian recital debut at the renowned Lyceum Club overlooking the Arno in Florence. Recent operatic roles include Scaramuccio (Ariadne auf Naxos), Telemaco (Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria), Fiscal (Juana), Little Bat (Susannah) and Nate (Highway One, USA). He holds degrees from Arizona State University, the University of Michigan and DePauw University and has been featured as an artist at Passion Project: Opera, Opera Montana, University of Arizona Opera Theatre, Arizona Opera, Barn Opera, Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble, Ad Astra Music Festival and Southern Illinois Music Festival. Bo is a two-time Fulbright grantee to Italy and is an English and Italian teacher.
